Aftercare advice is essential to help reduce the risk of treatment complications, to improve your comfort/healing and to help achieve the best possible results from treatment.

  • After treatment the skin may be red, swollen and sometimes bruised at the injection sites. These after effects will resolve naturally, usually within a few days however it may take up to 2 weeks for more extensive bruising to resolve.

    Occasionally you may experience a headache after treatment which may last 1-2 days. Usually this is controlled by taking simple over the counter pain killers such as paracetamol.

    • Avoid applying makeup to the treated area for 24 hours, this can help reduce the risk of infection.

    • Avoid any extremes of temperature for the next 24 hours, for example have a tepid shower or bath rather than hot.

    • Avoid exercising or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post-treatment.

    • Do not go swimming or use saunas or steam rooms for at least 24 hours post-treatment.

    • No excessive alcohol on the day of the treatment.

    • Do not lie flat or face down for at least 4 hours after treatment. Remain upright for 4 hours after treatment, this can help to reduce product migration.

    • Avoid touching or rubbing the treated after for at least 24 hours after treatment, doing so may affect treatment results.

    • Avoid any further cosmetic procedures to the treated area for 2 weeks following treatment, including permanent makeup and skin treatments.

    • You must seek medical attention and contact your practitioner if you experience any signs or symptoms of infection after treatment. Infection can present as hot, red shiny skin, there may be pus formation and you may have a fever or feel generally unwell.

    • You must seek emergency medical attention if you experience any severe allergy symptoms after treatment. Symptoms may include rash, facial swelling and breathing difficulties.

    • Contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you notice any other unwanted side effects.

  • • The treated area of skin may feel slightly tender and appear red and swollen afterwards. You may occasionally experience skin peeling and appearances may be similar to mild sunburn. These effects will resolve naturally and should be much improved after 48 hours but may take longer to settle. You may experience some minor bruising which may take 1-2 weeks to resolve in some cases.

    • Avoid any perfumes, fake tan or other harsh chemicals for 72 hours after treatment.

    • Avoid any makeup for 24 hours after treatment as this can increase the risk of infection.

    • Avoid rubbing or picking the treated area.

    • Avoid any skin exfoliation for 72 hours following treatment.

    • It is important to use a regular moisturising cream around two to three times a day on the treated area. Use more regularly if you feel the skin dry or peeling.

    • Avoid any products that contain alpha hydroxy acids, retinol, and glycolic acid for at least 7 days after treatment.

    • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, sunbeds and exposure to heat for 72 hours after treatment. These can cause sweating which can irritate the delicate skin and slow down your ability to heal quickly.

    • Avoid swimming for 72 hours after treatment.

    • Avoid any excess alcohol or caffeine for 48 hours after treatment.

    • Wear SPF 30 or greater sunscreen for at least 2 weeks following treatment as your skin will be more sensitive to sunlight afterwards.

    • Avoid any further cosmetic treatments e.g. Botox or dermal filler for 2 weeks following treatment, or ask your practitioner for advice.

    • Avoid any hair removal treatments such as waxing for 2 weeks after treatment or until the initial redness and swelling has resolved.

    • You must seek medical attention and contact your practitioner if you experience any signs or symptoms of infection after treatment. Infection can present as hot, red shiny skin, there may be pus formation and you may have a fever or feel generally unwell.

    • You must contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you notice any other unwanted side effects.

    • Your practitioner will advise when further treatment appointments are required. If you are advised to attend a follow up appointment, please do make every effort to attend them. You should do this even if you believe that the recovery process is going well and you cannot see that there are any visible complications.

  • • Immediately after dermal filler injections the treatment area may be red, tender or swollen. The redness and tenderness should improve after 48 hours. Swelling is often worse on days 2-3 after injection, improved by day 5 and resolved by 2 weeks.

    • For significant swelling contact your practitioner for advice. Swelling may be reduced by regular cold compress, anti-inflammatory medicines such as Ibuprofen (after 24 hours, if safe for you to take), antihistamines and sleeping with your head propped up on 3 pillows to help drainage of fluid overnight.

    • Bruising is common following treatment; this will resolve naturally but may take up to 2 weeks to settle.

    • Regular application of Arnica cream may be helpful for bruising.

    • Tenderness is normal when the injected area is touched afterwards but active pain at rest is not normal. If you experience pain, you must contact your practitioner as soon as possible.

    • Avoid any makeup for 24 hours after treatment as this will reduce the risk of infection.

    • You may require a top up appointment if there is some mild unevenness or discrepancies noticed once the initial swelling has resolved. Top ups should not be done until 4 - 6 weeks, this is when all post-injection swelling would have resolved.

    • Drink plenty of water after treatment to keep well hydrated.

    • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, hot drinks and spicy food for 24 hours.

    • Avoid medications such as aspirin or Ibuprofen for 24 hours as they are blood thinning agents and may worsen bruising (if these medications have been advised by your GP you must check with your GP before stopping them)

    • Avoid supplements such as multivitamins, fish oils, glucosamine and Vitamin B or Vitamin E, which are blood thinning agents and may exacerbate bruising for 24 hours (if these supplements have been advised by your GP please check with your GP before stopping them)

    • Avoid any excess sun exposure, extremes of hot/cold, saunas, swimming or strenuous exercise until the redness and swelling has settled.

    • A rare complication of dermal fillers is vascular occlusion in which a blood vessel is accidentally blocked with filler. Signs and symptoms include throbbing and aching pain which can be severe, paleness, a cold feeling to the tissue and purple streaky mottling tissue changes. If you notice any of these symptoms you must contact your practitioner as soon as possible, they will guide you through how to perform a capillary refill test and then assess you fully and advise further action if required.

    • You must seek medical attention and contact your practitioner if you experience any signs or symptoms of infection after treatment. Infection can present as hot, red shiny skin, there may be pus formation and you may have a fever or feel generally unwell.

    • You must seek emergency medical attention if you experience any severe allergy symptoms after treatment. Symptoms may include rash, facial swelling and breathing difficulties.

    • You must contact your practitioner as an emergency is you notice any visual disturbance or loss of vision after the filler injections.

    • Contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you notice any other unwanted side effects.

    • Results can be assessed at 2 weeks, by when any residual swelling will have settled.

  • • The treated area of skin may feel slightly tender and appear red and swollen afterwards. Your skin may also feel tight and dry after treatment. These effects will resolve naturally but may take up to 7 days to settle. You may experience some minor bruising which may take 1-2 weeks to resolve in some cases.

    • A cold compress may help swelling as well as sleeping propped up on 3 pillows to help drainage of fluid overnight.

    • You may experience some minor crusting and weeping; this is normal following treatment.

    • Never pick crusted or scabbed areas as this may lead to scarring.

    • Contact your practitioner at any stage if you are concerned about how the area is healing.

    • The healing and skin remodeling process can take up to 8-12 weeks, the full effects of treatment can be seen after this time.

    • Use a mild cleanser with tepid water to clean your face for 7 days after the treatment and gently dry the treated area. Keep your hands clean when touching your face.

    • Avoid any perfumes, fake tan or other harsh chemicals for 72 hours after treatment because these can irritate the skin.

    • Avoid any makeup for at least 7 days after treatment as this can increase the risk of infection.

    • Do not cover the area with a dressing or plaster.

    • Avoid any skin exfoliation in the treated area for 12 weeks after treatment.

    • Use a soothing aloe vera cream three times per day on the treated area. This can help the healing process and keep any crusted areas moist.

    • Do not use oils or other creams on the area for the first 7 days.

    • Avoid any products that contain alpha hydroxy acids, retinol, and glycolic acid for at least 12 weeks after treatment.

    • Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours after treatment.

    • Avoid Sunbeds, saunas, steam rooms and excess sun exposure for 12 weeks after treatment. These can cause sweating which can irritate the delicate skin and slow down your ability to heal quickly.

    • Avoid swimming for 7 days after treatment.

    • Avoid any excess alcohol or caffeine for 48 hours after treatment.

    • Wear SPF 50 or greater sunscreen for at least 12 weeks following treatment as your skin will be more sensitive to sunlight afterwards.

    • Avoid any further cosmetic treatments e.g. Botox or dermal filler for 2 weeks following treatment, or ask your practitioner for advice.

    • Avoid any hair removal treatments such as shaving or waxing for 2 weeks after treatment.

    • You must seek medical attention and contact your practitioner if you experience any signs or symptoms of infection after treatment. Infection can present as hot, red shiny skin, there may be pus formation and you may have a fever or feel generally unwell.

    • You must contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you notice any other unwanted side effects.

    • Your practitioner will advise when further treatment appointments are required.

  • • Following Hyaluronidase injections the treated area will often be red, swollen and tender. These effects will generally subside after 48 hours but may last longer.

    • If the area is tender you can use simple over the counter pain killers such as paracetamol. If you experience any severe pain, you must contact your practitioner straight away.

    • You may experience bruising afterwards, this will resolve naturally but may take up to 2 weeks. Regular application of arnica cream can help with resolution.

    • Swelling is very common following hyaluronidase treatment. Swelling can occasionally be severe, if this is the case you must contact your practitioner for review. Swelling can be treated with cold compress application, regular Ibuprofen (after 24 hours, if safe for you to take), antihistamines and sleeping propped up on 2-3 pillows to help drainage of fluid overnight.

    • Avoid using makeup for 24 hours as this can increase the risk of infection at the injection sites.

    • Avoid alcohol intake for 24 hours, drink plenty of water to keep hydrated.

    • Avoid strenuous exercise and activities for 24 hours.

    • Avoid temperature extremes, saunas and steam rooms until the redness and swelling has resolved.

    • Avoid sunbeds and excess sun exposure until the area has healed.

    • Avoid using any harsh cleansing products on the treated area.

    • You must seek medical attention and contact your practitioner if you experience any signs or symptoms of infection after treatment. Infection can present as hot, red shiny skin, there may be pus formation and you may have a fever or feel generally unwell.

    • Hyaluronidase can rarely cause severe allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. You must seek emergency medical attention if you experience any severe allergy symptoms after treatment. Symptoms may include rash, facial swelling and breathing difficulties. If you are concerned call 999 for assessment.

    • Contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you notice any other unwanted side effects.

    • Results can be assessed at 2 weeks after the Hyaluronidase dissolving injections, if you feel you need further filler dissolved at this stage then contact your practitioner for review.

    • Avoid any irritants to your face, such as any products containing Retin-A (tretinoin), retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic / salicylic acids, astringents or chemical peels for at least 7 days after treatment.

    • Avoid any hair removal procedures such as waxing for 2 weeks.

    • Do not exercise, receive any body treatments, take hot showers, or use saunas or hot tubs until redness and swelling has resolved (usually 2 days).

    • Contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you experience any unwanted side effects or if you are concerned about healing.

    • Your practitioner will advise you when follow up appointments are needed. If you are advised to attend a follow up appointment, please do make every effort to attend them.   • • Keep the treated area clean and dry afterwards.

    • Do not prick/pull/scratch the treated area.

    • Leave the treated area undressed (to the open air) unless clothing is irritating the treated area, in which case a plaster can be applied.

    • The treated area might be slightly sore afterwards, if needed you can take some simple over the counter pain killers such as paracetamol.

    • Avoid direct sunlight exposure for at least one week after the procedure.

    • Your skin may look red and swollen in the treatment area for two to three days - this is a normal skin reaction and will naturally resolve. The area may also scab over, if this occurs do not pick the scab as this could increase the risk of scarring.

    • Avoid scrubbing or exfoliating the treated area. When washing your face, use a mild soap or skin cleanser and avoid any harsh chemicals.

    • Do not have another facial or cosmetic treatment until area has fully healed.

    • You may only resume the regular use of Retin-A, AHA, BHA skincare or cosmetic products only after healing is complete.

    • You must seek medical attention and contact your practitioner if you experience any signs or symptoms of infection after treatment. Infection can present as hot, red shiny skin, there may be pus formation and you may have a fever or feel generally unwell.

    • Contact your practitioner if you experience any bleeding afterwards.

    • Contact your practitioner as soon as possible if you notice any other unwanted side effects.

    • Seek medical attention if you feel unwell or experience any significant side effects following the injection.

    • Seek emergency medical attention in the rare event that you experience any severe allergy signs or features of anaphylaxis after the injection. These may include rash, facial swelling and breathing difficulties.

  • • You can resume your normal daily activities after fat dissolving treatment.

    • Immediately after treatment with fat dissolving you may notice some redness, swelling, tenderness and a painful sensation in the treated area, as well as numbness from the local anaesthetic. These symptoms generally improve significantly over the next few days.

    • The swelling occasionally may last for up to 2 weeks, if symptoms persist or other reactions occur, please contact your practitioner.

    • Drink plenty of fluids after treatment, you should aim for at least 2 liters per day.

    • If the area is tender, you can use simple over the counter painkillers such as paracetamol.

    • Avoid makeup for 24 hours and any creams or skin oils, this will reduce the risk of infection at the injection sites.

    • A cold compress may help with swelling and inflammation.

    • Eating a healthy diet and taking regular physical exercise will help to improve fat loss and limit new fat gain.

    • Try to reduce alcohol and caffeine consumption to help prevent dehydration.

    • Avoid sunbeds, swimming, UV light and saunas until the initial skin redness and swelling has settled.

    • Avoid any extremes of temperature for the first week following treatment.

    • You must seek medical attention and contact your practitioner if you experience any signs or symptoms of infection after treatment. Infection can present as hot, red shiny skin, there may be pus formation and you may have a fever or feel generally unwell.
